Musk withdraws the case against OpenAI
US billionaire Elon Musk is withdrawing his lawsuit against OpenAI, the maker of artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT. However, it is not known why Musk decided to withdraw the case. News Independent.
Musk's lawyers asked the California state court to dismiss the lawsuit on Tuesday, Reuters reported. A hearing on the dismissal of the lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court is scheduled for Wednesday.
Last February, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT. He alleged breach of contract and failure of the company to benefit people.
Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI. OpenAI was founded to bring the company's work to the public as well as to realize OpenAI's core mission of 'doing good'.
Musk said he was approached by Sam Altman and Greg Brockman with the goal of establishing OpenAI as an open source and non-profit company. But the company, which launched in 2015, has been focusing more on monetization over the past few years. Musk resigned from OpenAI's board in 2018.
According to filings filed last February, Musk said the three agreed to work on artificial general intelligence (AGI), referring to the founding of OpenAI. Through this, various machines will acquire the ability to act like humans. The concept was supposed to be implemented in a way that would benefit people. But OpenAI under Sam Altman's stewardship has failed to contribute to human welfare.
The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI, which is primarily a Microsoft product, has launched its most powerful AI model 'GPT-4' in 2023 through the founding agreement. Musk wanted the court to rule that OpenAI would be forced to disclose its own research and technologies to the public, which would prevent Microsoft or anyone else from using such technologies for financial gain.
